THE FIT OT
My role as an occupational therapist takes many forms, very similar to fitness. I work with children and toddlers who experience challenges in their daily learning experiences or routines through self-care, participation, and play. As a pediatric OT, I work collaboratively with students, their teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure that they are supported, and coached with a skills-based approach to improve their participation and independence. The scope of an occupational therapist is extremely broad and that is what I love about it. Given the short time I’ve had being a trainer and OT, there have definitely been career overlaps that make my journey more enjoyable. This may be reflected in adaptive training clinics, college-ready workshops for teens, fitness classes for youths, modifying exercises at my local gym for the elderly, and mobile members as well as hosting virtual goal-setting workshops. Where I am, whatever I do, the FIT OT in me will always shine through!
